About this tradition
Sencelles honours its most illustrious daughter: Francinaina Cirer, the 'tia Xiroia', a Sencelles farmwoman beatified by John Paul II in 1989. A festival of intense local devotion, with pilgrims from all over the Pla.
History & origin
Francinaina Cirer (1781-1855) was a farmwoman from Sencelles who founded the Sisters of Charity and devoted her life to caring for the sick and educating girls in the village. Her birthplace is preserved as an oratory. She was beatified in 1989, and her incorrupt body is venerated in the parish church.
How it is celebrated
Solemn mass attended by the Sisters of Charity, a visit to the birthplace — open that day — and a processó with the relic. The faithful come from all over Mallorca, especially from villages where the congregation had a house.

Associated gastronomy
As it falls in or near Lent, fasting dishes are eaten: meatless sopes de matances, fish rice. Sencelles pastries and Carnival orelletes if the dates coincide.
