About this tradition
August festivities in the wine heart of the Raiguer. Consell celebrates Sant Bartomeu among the vines, in the week before the harvest, when the grapes are ready and the village is holding its breath.
History & origin
Consell belonged to Alaró until 1925, when it gained municipal independence. Sant Bartomeu, apostle and patron of tanners and winegrowers, already presided over the church when the village was a mere cluster of wine houses between Binissalem and Santa Maria.
How it is celebrated
Verbenes in the square over several nights, cucanyes for the children, and on the patron's day processó and solemn mass. The festival overlaps with the final preparations for the harvest: many neighbours come straight from the cellar to the square.
