About this tradition
One of Mallorca's smallest municipalities celebrating on a grand scale. Búger has fewer than a thousand inhabitants, but its Sant Pere festival fills the square with people who come back from Palma just for these days.
History & origin
Búger was for centuries a farmstead dependent on Campanet, and did not gain municipal independence until 1836. Sant Pere, patron of fishermen and of those who hold the keys, remained the symbol of an inland village claiming a door of its own.
How it is celebrated
Correfoc through the narrow streets of the old quarter, verbena in the square, and on Sant Pere's day a solemn mass. Many who emigrated to Palma come back specially.
