About this tradition
Mallorca's sweet fair. Esporles fills its main street with bakeries, patisseries and private cooks competing for the best coca, the best gató and the finest ensaïmada. The island's sweetest celebration.
History & origin
Esporles had a tradition of family bakeries tied to the abundance of almonds in the district and the water of the torrent, which drove flour mills. The fair recovered and gave a shop window to a baking heritage that was being lost at home.
How it is celebrated
The main street becomes a succession of sweet stalls. There is a traditional baking competition, ensaïmada workshops where you learn to stretch the dough, and non-stop tastings. It gets crowded: go in the morning.

Associated gastronomy
Gató d'ametla with almond ice cream, the emblem. Ensaïmada filled with cabell d'àngel. Coca de patata from Valldemossa, robiols, crespells and brossat rubiols.
