About this tradition

One of the largest night marches in the Mediterranean: 48 kilometres on foot from the Palma district of Güell to the sanctuary of Lluc, walking all night through the Serra. Thousands set off at midnight and arrive at dawn.

History & origin

It began in 1974 with a group of friends from the Güell bar in Palma who bet they could walk to Lluc. What started as a wager between eleven people now draws tens of thousands and has become a rite of passage for Mallorcans.

How it is celebrated

Departure around 11 pm from Güell. The river of people crosses the Pla, climbs the Coll de sa Batalla in the dark and reaches Lluc between 6 and 10 in the morning. On arrival, mass in the basilica and the singing of the Blauets. Exhaustion and emotion mix: many weep at the sight of the sanctuary.

Ritual elements

  • ·Pujada del Coll de sa Batalla
